What Is Alterhuman / Alternative Human Personal Identity "AHPI?"

Alterhuman is both a standalone personal-use term, and an umbrella term for the wide spectrum of personal identities that are considered "alternative to the common societal idea of humanity."

Paraphrased from the term's original defining, the "common societal idea of humanity" or the "common human identity" is considered :

  • When separated from societal concepts such as gender, race, etc. and personal expressions, still identifying with the body as part of the self at it's base level - feeling comfortable with the mechanical human form, it's biology, bodily function, etc.
  • EX : A transgender person who still sees themselves as a human, and their body as their own (only incorrect,) generally would not be considered alterhuman, unless the gender of said trans person directly correlates to a nonhuman concept of gender.

  • Identification around a singular persona which has been present since birth, and has not differentiated from the original-born persona attached to the body.
  • EX : Plurality would fall within alterhumanity due to multiple persons/personas/facets existing in one body. A walk-in, thoughtform, soulbond, etc. could as well, as they are not the “original.”

  • Identification as a human, with no supernatural basis (per user discretion.)
  • EX : One who identifies as human and as their singular, born persona - but who has an identity involving past lives, supernatural abilities, etc. may be considered AHPI if they so decide their experiences dictate as such.

  • Identification as a human, regardless of personal subculture.
  • EX : A furry would be human if they consider themselves to be, but a furry who identifies as a furry or their fursona more than anything else may be AHPI due to identification as a member of said subculture as part of one’s overall personal identity.

Examples of what could be considered an AHPI/Alterhuman identities include (but are not limited to,) as per personal discretion :

  • Therian/thropes, otherkin, phytanthrope/plantkin, and fictionkin identities
  • Multiple, plural, median, and walk-in identities
  • Spiritual self-identities which may still include degrees of humanity such as angelics, celestials, god shards, fictional humans, vampires, etc.
  • Identities involving shared self-identification with nonhuman or other alternative human entities/concepts such as animal-hearted, soulbond, and spiritual medium identities
  • Identities of alternative humanity through disassociation, responses from trauma or disorder, or non-neurotypical mental status

Am I alterhuman?

Alterhumanity is a self-labeled, personal, and subjective experience somebody has, it is not something that any outward force can answer for you. If you feel any resonation with the concept, and find yourself falling outside the "common human experience-" that is up to you if you feel the label fits for you, and feels good.

Who is allowed/the meets for?

Anybody who is respectful, willing to learn, and/or feel this space may benefit them.

For our first meeting, beings of any age are technically welcome, but future meets will have an age limit of at least 13+ most likely. This will be discussed at our first meet.

You do NOT need to be, or call yourself alterhuman to attend - the '+' in Seattle Area Alterhumans + is meant to be inclusive to other adjacent and supportive beings. Those who are questioning, unlabeled, curious about the identity, or have alterhuman friends/family are all welcome too.

When do meets happen? What are they like?

Our first meet is at January 10th 2026 (12:00pm-2:00pm.) We currently do not have a consistent meeting time. We will discuss this during the first meeting. This first meeting will largely be casual introductions and discussion about future meetups.

We plan to host various activities in the future; games, hikes/walks, nature cleanups, arts/crafts, various community work, etc. For every event or activity, we will make sure to have multiple options so it’s accessible for everybody. We also hope to participate in activism in collaboration with other groups. To be updated as we learn from the community!

Where do meets happen?

For our first meeting, we will be at the Capitol Hill Branch of The Seattle Public Library (425 Harvard Ave E, Seattle, WA 98102). This isn’t our forever spot; we will figure out where to permanently meet during our first meeting.

What should I wear/bring?

Nothing special required. Please wear and bring whatever makes you comfortable, so long as it is abiding by the library rules and would generally be considered appropriate for all ages/the public. 'Gear,' plushies, art supplies, games, etc. all welcome.

To avoid triggering allergies, please don’t bring food. If you need food for a medical reason, please bring food in a sealed container and ask about allergies before opening if in the meeting room.

What is not allowed at meets?

Any form of bigotry, hatred, instigation, harassment, abuse, etc. etc. against others on the basis of race, culture, ethnicity, sex, gender, attraction/orientation, class, dis/ability, body type, age, species/alterhuman identity, etc. etc. will not be welcome.
